Maarten Fijan

Maarten Fijan (1982, NL) is interested in design, minimalism and architecture. He observes shapes from daily life, for example the construction underneath a bridge or the tail light of a car and takes them into his practice. Fijan is playing with his work in the space by placing it in unusual spots, such as a corner. Hereby, not only the work itself asks for another sight, the interpretation of the room changes as well. The balance between being a painter and sculptor is known to Fijan. His works are in contact with the wall like an actual painting but take up the space of a sculpture. With materials as wood, canvas and paint he builds three dimensional – or ‘sculptural paintings’.
