Julia Pazdur was born in Krakow in 1998, now lives and works in Amsterdam.
Collage and painting have been at the heart of her work, with collage taking root first. It began during a home renovation, as she started cutting out objects from interior design magazines—a collection she had unknowingly curated. What began as a simple fascination with paper cutting evolved into a visual exploration of imagined interiors, shaping her early artistic vision.
In 2024, the artist graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie with a degree in Fine Arts. During this time, she explored various media, including video, performance, and installation. Painting, however, remained a personal practice outside of school, done at her desk on small canvases. Her work blends visual elements with the atmosphere she experience.
The elements in the artist’s paintings originate from various sources, often connected to her personal reality or serving as interpretations of it. When Julia Pazdur initially thought she was painting still life, she decided to illustrate it further. In Polish, “still life” translates to “Dead nature,” which inspired the use of skulls to symbolize death and fruits as symbols of nature and life.
