Julia Pazdur was born in Krakow in 1998, now lives and works in Amsterdam.
Collage and painting have always been central to her work, with collage coming first. She began by cutting out objects from interior design magazines, a collection Julia had amassed during a home renovation—coinciding with their budding interest in paper cutting. This led to the creation of imagined interiors.
In 2024, the artist graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie with a degree in Fine Arts. During this time, they explored various media, including video, performance, and installation. Painting, however, remained a personal practice outside of school, done at their desk on small canvases. Her work blends visual elements with the atmosphere they experience.
The elements in the artist’s paintings originate from various sources, often connected to her personal reality or serving as interpretations of it. When Julia Pazdur initially thought she was painting still life, she decided to illustrate it further. In Polish, “still life” translates to “Dead nature,” which inspired the use of skulls to symbolize death and fruits as symbols of nature and life.
