Tom Alon (25) graduated from Gerrit Rietveld Academy  in 2024 and lives and works in Amsterdam. Alon works with her closest surroundings – friends, family and living space, life and still life. While observing and painting them, she is following their (and her own) daily and bodily gestures. She uses the materials she finds – old papers, wood scraps, laminated floor- as surfaces to paint on. The interaction between the previous life of the material and its new life in the studio – where it is covered with text and paint – creates layers that reveal themselves at times, raising disturbing questions, but gives no marked answers, leaving the visitor in a constant search. Her paintings balance on the line between stillness and movement, between expression and abstraction.
